We have a fitness room in my building.  Nothing fancy.  A couple cardio machines, an all-in-one machine and a bunch of free weights.

I moved in October 15th and found that people love the elliptical, bikes and treadmill but almost no one uses the weights.

But still.

I hate sharing the room, not because I’m a douche, but because it’s a cozy space and they usually want to chat as they casually ride their bike while I’m just trying not to poop my pants hitting a new PR.

So I’ve been dreading this month because my happy space is about to be overrun by “new year new me” thinkers.

12% of new gym memberships happen in January.  That’s huge.  50% of new gym memberships have ghosted their ambitions within 6 months.  That’s … huger.

Before I explain how detrimental this is to your business, it’s important to know why it happens.

  1. You’re making the resolution out of tradition.
  2. You’re not specific.
  3. You’re not realistic.
  4. You’re relying on that short-lived but oh so initially strong motivation.
  5. You have zero accountability.

What I know more than anything is systems.  Excitement and motivation fall aside and what’s left is your system (or your daily habits).  We initially rise to our motivation and goals but I guarantee you’ll eventually fall to your system.

That’s why gym memberships skyrocket in January.

And why this happens months (sometimes weeks) later.

An empty fitness room with boring beige walls and grey flooring. Cardio machines line the left side of the room, an all-in-one weight machine is at the back next to a window, a large TV on the right hand side with freeweights and a bench in the foreground.

If you want some help fixing those 5 things that keep you from hitting your goals, here’s the weirdest coaching program ever.

It’s going to fill up fast because it’s January and the year is still squeaky new and smells like a newborn baby’s head.  No worries because I’ll be showing up for you every week to help keep you on track.

You will too.  Unlike the “new year new me” resolution, this is easy.

Let’s gooooo!
