We were in a meeting this week—talking through some new features we need to add to our software to make sure it handles international taxes properly. Y’know, like how Canada tracks GST.
And then one of the partners casually drops:
“Oh well, we don’t need to worry about that. Canada’s basically going to be the US soon anyway.”

Now, I usually let stuff like this roll off my back. But this time, even though it was a joke, it kinda bugged me.
I live in a border town so she cuts a little deeper. He did call later to apologize and I appreciated that. We’re moving on.
But here’s the thing about me:
When I see red, I don’t let it burn everything down.
I go back to my checklists.
My systems.
My dashboards.
The quiet backbone of my business that lets me keep moving forward—even when I’m not thinking straight. Because the only empire I’m interested in building is the one I run myself.
I like knowing where everything is, how it works, and what happens next—no matter what else is going on in the world.
